Finishing layers

Home decor styling

This consultation looks at the last layer of a residential room: tables, shelves, textiles, and wall composition, including what to remove so remaining objects can be seen.

A small table as a composition. Illustrative, not an OBSDNX project.

Tables

Coffee tables and consoles fail in two opposite ways: they are empty in a way that feels incomplete, or they are fully occupied so daily life has nowhere to land. The consultation can discuss grouping, height variation, trays, and how much clear surface to keep.

Consoles and shelves

Open storage displays every object. Closed storage hides volume. If shelves stay open, empty intervals are part of the composition. The consultation can discuss visual weight, repetition of materials, and which souvenirs need not be on view.

Walls and textiles

Art placement is discussed as scale relative to a sofa, bed, or console—not as hanging hardware or wall type. Textiles are discussed as layers: whether a rug, throw, and cushions belong to the same family, and how many patterns the room can carry.

  • Height of art relative to furniture, not installation method.
  • Whether one larger piece organizes a wall better than many small frames.
  • How many patterns can sit next to a strong existing print.

When this consultation fits

  • Shelves that have collected objects without a readable arrangement.
  • A coffee table or console that looks cluttered or unfinished.
  • Uncertainty about art scale above a sofa or bed.
  • Rugs, curtains, and cushions that do not seem to belong to the same room.

How to prepare

Photograph the surfaces you want to discuss in daylight if you can send images later by email. List objects you want to keep for personal reasons. Note pets, children, or frequent guests if they affect what can sit on a low table. The website form does not accept uploads.

Limits of this service

  • No in-home styling, art hanging, or window-treatment installation.
  • No furniture manufacturing or guaranteed product sourcing.
  • No appraisal of art or antiques.
  • No claim that a styled photograph can be reproduced exactly in your room.

How an inquiry becomes a consultation

  1. Describe the room and the questions you want discussed on the Contact page. Choose Home Decor as the consultation type.
  2. OBSDNX reviews the inquiry. Submitting the form does not book a time, collect payment, or create a service agreement. Availability is not guaranteed.
  3. If a consultation can be offered, the format, content, and terms are agreed before work begins. This website does not specify a meeting length, a video call, or a particular document type.
  4. Guidance, when provided, stays within the topics on this page and the agreed scope. It does not include construction, renovation, or installation in your home.

Decor questions

Do you style the room in person or hang art?

No. Home decor styling is an online consultation. OBSDNX does not install art, window treatments, or accessories.

Can we work with objects I already own?

Yes. Editing and regrouping existing objects is often more useful than adding more. Include that constraint in the inquiry.

Will you purchase decor items for me?

No. The consultation may discuss types of objects, scale, and placement concepts. OBSDNX does not procure specific products.

Home decor

Are the surfaces finished, or only occupied?

Describe the tables, shelves, or walls you want to discuss and which objects must stay. An inquiry is not a booking.
